Who are Filipinos?

To belong in a third world country can take its toll on so many aspects in your life.  We are perceived as a nation with poor quality of life, domestic helpers, drivers, immigrants or aliens of the western world, nannies. There was even one comment in a blog about a supposed “hoax” Q&A portion that happened in a pageant.

Filipinas have an international reputation as nannies and maids, particularly in the rest of Asia and the Middle East, where they predominate in that field. The Philippines export labor to the world.

Yes, it is true that most of our fellowmen felt or feels the need to go abroad to seek a better future for themselves and their family.  But that is only a testament on how strongly we Filipinos feel about providing the best for our families, that we endure the distance and loneliness to fulfill that.  But more than that, Filipinos are more than just a nation of poor people, OFWs ( Overseas Filipino Workers) and a help.

We are a nation of happy, family oriented people.  Who firmly believes that being a family and helping one another is a way of life.

We are a nation that still sees hope amidst tragedies.

We are a nation of good, industrious, caring and compassionate workers.

Last, but definitely not the least, we are a nation that has absolute faith.  That faith guide us through our day to day living and brings hope that tomorrow will be better than today.

We are more than what the world sees us.  Yes, we may have a long way to go to achieve the stability like our neighboring countries but that doesn’t mean we will not get there.  We are not perfect, but we try our best to do better every single day. We are Filipinos, and we are a nation of strong-willed, intelligent, compassionate, just and God-fearing people, and for that I know we will succeed.
